Photographer's Note
Small wooden plaqes you find at temples. People buy them and put their wishes on them to put it simply. This was taken at Meiji Jingu. Yes you find ones written in ENglish as well. Meiji Jingu is a popular tourist attraction. I think when I was there taking these photos the number of non-Jpanaese outnumbered the Japanese.
I dont have the shutter and f-stop info handy but I think its safe to say I took this at around f1.2 ISO was at 100
EDIT:
the usual....
set whute and shadow points in levels on blue chan
Color balance
curves on Lum chan

Your note is very interesting, thanks. The photo is very interesting too. Some people might complain about the DOF, but I like it this way. The way you focus on only some of the plaques makes them stand out for me. Well done.

Those wooden plaques and the repetition of them is very interesting subject. So, I think that the DOF should be a little bit wider so that more of those texts could be seen properly. Well seen and done in any case...

Typical Boof shot :). I think maybe the DOF is a little too short this time. The tones are really nice, you've managed to get the same type of lighting in several pictures now, and I like it a lot. Maybe cropping to the right so that the lines aren't broken would be a good idea? I posted a workshop.

Very well seen, and accompanied by an interesting note. The DOF works for me as it is; it allows me to focus on the details on some of the plaques, whereas I feel that the image might have become too busy if more or all of them were equally sharp. I like it!

I also agree that a wider DOF would have been better or, at least, have a primary focal point such as a board that's facing the camera. Still a good shot, though.

This highly narrow DOF is something interesting to enhance the quantity of small items and give a precise idea of what soem of them look like as well.
I find this subject and the comment really interesting. I learned a lot this time again. Beautiful picture.
