Photographer's Note

On July 5th I went to the Gion Matsuri (festival) in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. On the last train I boarded on my journey which took about two hours from my apartment, was this young lady in a Yukata, also going to the Matsuri.

I've a heap of photos from the Matsuri itself to follow. Once I've uploaded a few more I'll drop them into a travelogue.

Most people visiting Japan (myself included for the last twelve years) only think of Narita as the place with the international airport. Never thinking to stop-off and take a look around. My trip there yesterday showed me another side of Narita that was pleasantly surprising. It's a small City but has a lot of history. The first mentions of the Gion Matsuri itself date back to the sixth year of the Kyohou Era, or 1721.

Take a look at the other photos from this day in my travelogue.
