Photographer's Note

Village Hmong à 2 heures de navigation en amont de Luang Prabang sur le Mekong. Mon ami et guide est allé chercher dans une maison cet instrument qui ne sert normalement que les jours de fête. Le village était rassemblé pour cette occasion, particulièrement les enfants. Le musicien joue aussi debout en dansant.

je commençais à déseperer de revoir une de tes magnifiques photos sur trekearth!Encore une fois,j'adore,et je suis toujours impressionnée par l'extraordinaire qualité de la photo! Il y a tant de douceur,tant d'harmonie,et puis la scène est si belle!

Hi Jean Michel,
This is a very good and also a very interesting picture. The composition with this man and boy (I assume this is his son) is just perfect and the picture is very well cropped. The blurred background colours are perfect. But the instrument is a mystery to me. I can see that this is no saxophone, but is the name of this? Wharever, a beautiful and certainly very well composed image!

Salut Jean-Michel

Une superbe image avec une lumière à tomber par terre. J'adore la touche claire de la végétation en arrière plan mais la douceur dorée qui baigne l'ensemble est ce qui retient le plus mon attention. Cette beauté se double d'une intérêt quasiment anthopologique, avec un instrument "rare" (sans doute pas pour les Hmongs, mais pour moi, oui!) qui m'intrigue. Comment se nomme-t-il? Le son ressemble t-il davantage à celui d'un flûte, d'un hautbois, ou l'instrument produit-il un son plus aigrelet? Voilà qui excite ma curiosité!

Le cadrage est parfait pour bien apprécier l'ensemble. Le piqué est bon et l'attitude du petit garçon planqué derrière le musicien, joue collée contre son dos comme s'il voulait ainsi ressentir les vibrations de la musique; apporte une touche plus intime et tendre.

this instrument is called "Qeej"- a type of reed pipe, in which each tone corresponds to a Hmong spoken word. It is a free-reed gourd mouth organ, used to play a text-based melody in the middle range.
