Photographer's Note
The corner architecture that label with the year of built 1947 is a small Chinese restaurant.
Before the colonial era, local architectures are typically built with bamboos, woods and sometimes stones. As showing in the above photo, shop lots at the British Colonial era are built with bricks and concrete.
As a historical district, Muar is a prosperous old city before the begin of colonial era, however royal family and local residents are become vulnerable while western power declared war and occupied Malacca Strait.
Muar is rich in history as mentioned in many historical records and archeological works.[citation needed] It is believed that the history of Muar started much earlier than the Sultanate of Malacca. There were many accounts recorded about the early history of Muar. In 1361, it was claimed that Muar was a part of the Majapahit empire. Another account also stated that Parameswara, upon his exile from Temasik before proceeding to found Melaka, had established a settlement at Kota Buruk, Pagoh, Ulu Muar, Muar witnessing the beginning of the Malacca Sultanate empire. Historically, Muar was also where the deposed heir of the Malacca Sultanate escaped to in 1511 following the invasion of the Portuguese, launched from Goa. During the Portuguese's Afonso de Albuquerque invasion and attack in 1511, Muar played a role in resisting the Portuguese occupation of Malacca; the Kubu Bentayan fort was built by the last Sultan of Malacca, Sultan Mahmud to repel seaborne invasions, before he was defeated and retreat further to Pagoh, this time witnessing the fall of the Malacca Sultanate empire.

The local here seems to be of media society by the visible medium houses. A society level that must produce. The main bigger factories may remain outside while smaller businesses may be found in this village. There is a huge building further to the right side. Do you know what it is? ( Seeing the gallery in the latest photo I have commented you have wrote a clause at which I need your support. Sentence: "Several photos shoot during the canopy walk are available in my travelogue". I have translated the word canopy and the meaning can be applied in someting that covers a house like a roof. (But the canopy walk)makes no sense for me because the word walk. Thanks for sharing. Warm regards Tomi

Hi Ally,
What lively colors you have to this buys urban scene.
The focus on the corner gives this one depth and a different dimension.
The pale blue sky makes a lovely backdrop to this busy street scene.

Hi Ally
Excellent tech execution in making this image and perfect photo-descriptions make this even more interesting. It does look very attractive and much enhanced by your careful presentation. Nice capture of this old town with good mix of old and new buildings with so much character and colours. This particular viewpoint is impressive, we are able to view on both sections, the row of yellow shophouses really catch attentions in stunning yellow. The row on the right is equally nice with specks of vibrant colors too.
and I love the fact that people are giving these buildings a sense of scale and life. Delightful so nice to see, especially that 1947 building probably a corner coffee shop. Interesting also to note how clean the streets are, something we rarely see around old town, thanks for showing this. A bit of nostalgic image for me, I remember in the 60s, this was a fav stop over town before crossing Muar river by slow ferryboat up north since there was no bridge then.....
Hopefully this town continues to survive and the old charm is retained. Enjoy this image greatly and thanks for sharing
Best regards

Bonjour Ally,
C'est dommage que la colonisation a fait perdre les savoir faire de la population. Les guerres n'ont la plupart du temps que des inconvénients.

Hi Ally,
It's always familiar to see these nostalgic town, so ordinary people's lives can catch a glimpse from the building and the street. It is interesting to be able to see the transition of the history in the age of the age as being the record in your note though the building looks ordinary.
Regards,
mikio
