Reaching Up, a photo from Pulau Pinang, West

Photographer's Note

Reaching Up (GPS: 5.41479, 100.33648) is a mural painted on a wall along Cannon Street, George Town. It is located across the street from the Anak-Anak Kota clubhouse, and within a short walking distance to Khoo Kongsi and the Acheen Street Mosque.

"Reaching Up" depicts a little boy reaching for a hole in the wall. He appears to be standing on a chair and inching himself as high as he could reach. The painting was created by Ernest Zacharevic in conjunction with the 2012 George Town Festival. Since its completion, it has grown increasing number of visitors coming to take photos with it.
The mural was given a touch up by the artist again in 2016. Time and the elements have contributed to the mural's decay ever since... another touch up wouldn't go amiss.

Hello Alex,
In Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur I've seen similar murals supplemented with real objects such as the chair here.
The result here is very attractive. Also the fact that the painted boy reaches for the window opening with his hand.

Hi Alex,

This is a fun mural, and it brightens up a pretty shabby piece of wall.. The chair really adds to the artwork. Your photo is sharp and well exposed.

Thanks for showing this one, Alex. I spent quite some time in Georgetown but haven't been back there in 18 years, so I have never had the opportunity to see this great street art drawing in the real. Wonderful work, great picture of it too.
