Gorkhi Terelj National Park
this is a classical view taken from the ascending steps of the Buddhist temple Günjin Süm. Since the climate in Mongolia is continental it's no surprise that first snow settled at 1'700 m altitude in September.
You notice that the Siberian Larch is the dominating tree species. In the background (and backlighted by the sun) you can see Turtle rock of Cambrian granite.
The park is situated some 70 km from Ulaan Baatar and is often visited by stopover passengers of the Trans-Mongolia train.
