Photographer's Note

The fields in this case being anchored in the water, taking hydroponics to a new level!

The beautiful Inle Lake is truly a different world but aside from the famous one-legged fishermen, the colourful tribal markets and the stilted wooden houses I am most impressed by the floating gardens. There are huge expanses of both flowers and vegetables fields growing on mounds of soil floating on water and there is a network of narrow waterways between the gardens where farmers canoe between endless rows to add lake-weed fertliser. Mass of poles in the background anchor those gardens to the lake bed.

Farmers lovingly tending to their crops from their flat-bottom canoes and cruising along these channels is simply sublime
