Photographer's Note
The gates of the Harati Devi Temple - where the intricate craftsmenship on Copper & Bronze is exemplary.
The Harati Devi Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess of smallpox and other epidemics, as well as a protectress of children. The small brick pagoda is very popular among both Hindus and Buddhists, especially mothers seeking blessings for their children. Petitioners toss flower petals, rice, colored powder and holy water over the Harati image, then receive a tika ( a coloured mark on the forehead) from the resident priest. Monkeys, stray dogs, and pigeons fight over the rice and the food offerings, contributing to the chaotic atmosphere. The image of the goddess dates only from the 19th century; it replaces the original that was smashed by King Rana Bahadur Shah after his wife died of smallpox.

Hello Arunava,
Welcome back to TE. It is a surprise to see you here after such a long absence. This is an elegant close study of these Nepalese temple gates, an artistic delight and a masterpiece of craftsmanship. It is a well exposed photo with supreme sharpness allowing us a close look at the many fine details. I see this was taken almost a ear ago. I wonder how this temple withstood the disastrous earthquake.
Kind regards,
Gert

Howdy Arunava,
Impressive Hindu masterpiece of intricate, multiple designs, patterns, etc. The Harati Devi Temple is not your grandmother's Greek like temple. We Yanks too often only value the western architecture. I am personally impressed by India's uniqueness, difficult and elegant designs within architecture and culture and even clothing.
I have a Nehru jacket with gold embroidery, but alas can not find it in the mess of boxes of stored goods...
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers,
Ray
