Vendors prepare special treated thread used to fly kites at a roadside stall in Rawalpindi, on the eve of The Basant Festival.
Basant, sometimes called Jashan-e Baharaan (Spring Festival) is a festival celebrating the arrival of spring. Many people fly kites from rooftops.The Basant festival heralds the end of winter and arrival of spring. It is celebrated in entire Pakistan and India with flying kites.

I just read several fascinating stories from Pakistani newspapers about Basant and all of the violence that accompanies the festival including sharpened kite strings. All of them were talking about government efforts to ban the festivals because so many people were killed every year from stray bullets, stabbings and even a couple with throats slashed by sharpened kite strings. It is a culture that I don't understand but I am still fascinated by it. I love the composition here and how the colors are juxtaposed against the landscape. I would love to see photos of some of the kites. Thank you for sharing.

Hello Sajjad,
This is a nice gallery on Pakistan that I just discovered thanks to you! I really appreciate your creativity here in terms of composition and framing. Maybe I would have waited a little more that the guy in light blue (with the green star hat) moves towards you to be closer to the right part of the frame and balance the overall composition a little more. But this is just a detail, I really like this photo anyway (among the other ones)

Beautiful colored lines! At first I thought they were lights with the effect of movement. They have excellent contrast with the weak colors of the rest of the picture. Interesting composition.
