Photographer's Note
These children live in this vacant lot along Vito Cruz St., Manila. After Christmas day, they were happily "role"-playing as they displayed some of the gifts they received for Christmas. It is quite strange how they resemble much of what's happening in the world today. Everyone was unmindful of my prying camera except for one girl. As you can see, she was posing and smiling. The picture speaks for itself...

Nice shot. Yes, sad that the kids, as they always did and everywhere in the world, copy the adults in their worst. But the picture did bring a smile in my face as like every kid in the workd, they have fun playing in empty boxes, and this is one is particularly cute with his toes sticking out at the bottom. the very light blurred framing gives a dream look to this image.

Nina already said almost everything I was about to write on this shot so well ... It's indeed interesting how focused they are on "playing adult", with the execption of the girl in the corner who is smiling into your lens. I also like the blurred frame you chose.
Happy 2004 to you, Manny. I'll be looking forward to seeing many more of your striking images.

Another great capture of children manuel. I like the diference between the games of the two groups of children. I like the black wall bacground, either. Very well seen and captured. They are so concentrate in their business, they didn't notice you, except the girl. Great.

Nice,I like 2 things:
First, It's like you shot it black and white, and painted the children afterwards.
The 2nd one is the composition that makes it look like a set in a movie, with action in 2 different rooms, that we look at simultaneously.
Good shot.

I also agree with ninadev. I just don´t like the frame very much. Great shot!

This well documents the Filipino's obsession with guns. A well composed pic with the wall splitting up the elements into 2 parts. I am not, however, fond of the fade around the edges.

Insouciance de l'enfance, vouloir imiter les grands sans comprendre ! Vous avez su dresser ici, Manuel, une photo à laquelle on ne peut rester insensible.
Très belle qualité photographique (composition, etc.).
Très bien.
Freedom from care of the childhood, to want to imitate the big without understanding(including)! You knew how to raise(draw up) here, Manuel, a photo in which we cannot remain insensible.
Very beautiful photographic quality (composition, etc.).
Very well.

To tell the truth I don't know if I should smile or be sad... It's a pleasure to see the kids playing, but with guns replicas... In Portugal for quite some time this kind of gifts are highly criticized. After our colonial war wich lasted for 13 years (ended in 1974) and had a devastated result these gifts were desincoureged. But I must confess I liked to play with them by that time.
But this is a great photo. First it really resembles an urban war scenery. Then the action all around and at last the almost BW backroung that enhances the children! The soften of the photo edges works very well.

First of all Manny, this is a great picture that captures the brief moments of play these children enjoy.
On the issue of the toys, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand there is the obvious argument that this fosters at a young age the notion of confrontation.
But on the other hand, who are we in our smug comfort of the western world to deny these children some of the "pleasures" we flaunt upon our own children in the form of war games and video confrontation.
A great photo that makes you think beyond the image.I hope you don't mind my interpretive workshop.

Very beautiful photo made a success well technically. I find funny to see the kid in his cardboard box imitating the big. Great shot!
Très belle photo bien réussie techniquement. Je trouve amusant de voir le gamin dans sa boîte de carton imitant les grands. Bien fait.

I missed this yesterday. It is a really good documentary-style picture -- one which is also very effective in B&W. Happy New Year, Manny.

The way you captured, framed and processed this scene is absolutely wonderful. This shot is rich of both, technical and emotional aspects.
