Church Bell, a photo from Iloilo, Western Visayas

Photographer's Note

This is the church bell of Historic Miagao Church, or Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva, in Iloilo, Philippines. It was inscribed as a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1972. The UNESCO Group is concerned with the world cultural and natural heritage. This church was completed in 1797. It was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1948 but was restored in 1960. Miagao Church is one of 4 Baroque Churches in the Philippines. I climbed up the bell tower to take a look at the old bell. It was huge and is till being used. There was this light that falls down the side of the bell from a small opening at the top. It forms a beautiful light shape on the bell. I decided to take a picture. Andre, from the thumbnail i cannot recognize it as a bell but when I opened it its because of the light. the bell looks really so old i just wish you captured it w/o the disturbing light....rgds

I like the idea of having strong light falling on part of the bell. The edges gives good texture and tells you how old the bell is. I also liked the inclusion of the arched door/window on the left. But the the window behind the bell is a bit distracting.

Nice close-up, very detailed. I like the structure on the bell and the wall. The photo is a bit dark, but it has good contrasts. Intresting note!
