Long ago, in year 1591, young Prince Dmitry, last male heir of throne of Great Princedom of Moscow, died here, in small town Uglich. According to one version, he had a epilepsy seizure during the game with a knife and stabbed himself. Another version is that he was actually killed by the assassin sent by he Regent Boris Godunov, who later become Tzar.

Anyway, Dmitry died on the spot and this church was erected in year 1692, 100 years later, to remember this event. It's walls are red, as you can see, and inside its covered in frescoes depicting one of the versions of Prince Dmitry's death.
