Photographer's Note
I crossed a big part of the Russia and came back to Saint Petersburg, a city with an endless amount of attractions.
I was very tired because the plane trip and change of time, but I wanted to enjoy my last moments in the city.
I took the subway to arrive in a train station, but I did a mistake and I left in the wrong station, many meters before, and I had to walk to reach the place. Near the railway station there was this beautiful modern monument paying homage to the men who take a train in this station to fight in the I War, most of them never came back home.
Russian empire was weakened after the defeat in the war with Japan in the orient, there was lots of economic and social turbulances and they had a treaty of mutual defense with other European countries, what obligated them to enter in that war. To put the things worst, Rasputin had a big influence inside the imperial family and convinced the czar he only would get a victory in the war if he personally commanded the troops, problem was he had no talent for that and the result was a tragedy for Russia. This opened a way for the fall of the monarchy and a weak republic and few months after the communist revolution would take control of the country, taking the country to abandon the external war and beginning a civil war, persecutions, confiscations, famine, tortures and many other tragedies.
..............

Hello Jorge,
I understand the need to honour all those who died for their country, but from an artistic point of view I am not particularly keen on this kind of heroic monuments. But the fresh flowers made it worth taking the photo. They brighten the dull statue and remind us that more than 100 years later people think of these men (even if it's just someone from the city administration who's job it is to come here every day).
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Jorge
People in the West often forget that Russia was on the side of the allies in both World Wars. Fortunately the cold war never turned hot. It would be great if Russia could become a fully fledged member of the EU, abandon its Communist style rule and become a Republic. Communism as such clearly does not work. Many people would wrongly name Biden or Trump as the most powerful man on the planet, but the correct answer is actually Putin. Good sharpness and excellent graphism. Tfs!

Hello Jorge,
Russian has a very turbulent history, like many other countries, but perhaps more severely!
This is a fine sculpture, suggesting the pride with which these men protected their country.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Oi Jorge

Hello Jorge,
I can imagine that Russia is full of memorials for both world wars. A good capture of this one in front of the grand building. The orange flowers are a nice detail.

Hello Jorge, So, I suppose that your wonderful trip comes to the end. In straight line - from Baikal to Borrazopolis 16 000 km. So it was like the round the world trip in kilometres.
Back in St. Petersburg. You always complain about some adventures. It is so funny.
Interesting monument, I haven't seen it. They honour their soldiers, usually the deads in the II WW. I saw it in Russia and the former republics (not Baltic). What city did you like more - Moscow or Pieter?
Have a nice day. Still a lot of snow in Warsaw.
