Photographer's Note

Gamcheon neighborhood was built as a slum for Korean War refugees who built on the mountainside in an inaccessible area. The neighborhood is built on stairs, with each house painted a different color, creating a colorful kaleidoscope, which also incorporates works of art made accordingly, which like a colorful cubist painting, make up one of the most picturesque landscapes in Korea.
The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism of Korea chose this slum to be a tourist site, and poured money and brought painters and street artists to give the neighborhood a different character, and indeed, since 2009, more and more people have found the place, and donated to make it a work of art.
The alleys that pass through the neighborhood are full of murals and sculptures made by the residents of the neighborhood. The neighborhood has won awards for the nickname "Dreaming of Machu Picchu in Busan," though with all due respect this neighborhood is a misplaced comparison.
