Photographer's Note

I had the idea today to go out of my apartment and find a subject to photograph on the block and then post it today, within a couple of hours of taking it. It was quite easy, I photographer some of the beggars and garland sellers on Silom Road.
There is no Social Security in Thailand, so what do the elderly do, if they have no one to support them? They go to the temple and live there or they sell ‘pung mai lai’ (garlands) on the street. People buy them to offer to the Buddha. In this way the elderly poor can survive and people can honor the Buddha. The garlands are made by other elderly people or poor children and are sold to the sellers for about 10 baht each. The street sellers sell them for 20 baht each. The can easily make 150 baht a day, which is about what a laborer would make. This lady is one of the regular sellers on my block she shouts out to me as I pass.
