Photographer's Note

I live in a condominium along the canal in Bangkok adjacent to a Thai Temple and the final station of the boat. The place is a hub of activities especially in the afternoon. People getting off the boat, monks doing their rounds, dogs roaming aimlessly (temples take care of them), but the most interesting sights are those of children horsing around, playing boisterously unmindful of the serious goings-on in life that is happening around them. I have loads and loads of pictures of these kids and I am posting the first one today. This was a very simple shot of two girls who were elusive at first but became my very willing "models" later. I took candid shots of them and the next day I had it printed to give to them. From then on, they recognized me as the "one with the camera that has a TV" and they got used to me taking shots of them every now and then. I made friends with their parents (most of them are vendors and boatkeepers) and I learned that they are not Buddhists but Muslims. Living near a Buddhist temple, it is amazing how they co-exists harmoniously, each one helping each other in one way or another.
These days, I still see these kids. The older one is already going to school and the younger one is still as shy as she was in this picture. The world according to children's eyes... is a puzzle (that's why I choose to take them from where I stand with the Puzzle-like pattern of the ground as a background).
Tomorrow, I will post a close-up picture of the older girl.
