Sorting through the archives and more pics from Uzbekistan I wish to share

This is an ancient fortress that served the emirs of Bukhara for over 1000 years as seat of government, a residence, audience hall, as protection from neighbouring enemies and as a trade centre. The citadel is surrounded by bulky & impregnable fortified walls, and was one of the most stunning landmarks on the Central Asian Silk Road.

A historic place that has existed since the Zoroastrian times. This fabulous monument has been very well restored several times to its former glory..
