In 1954, Vietnam was split into 2 countries by Geneva Agreement, its name was changed to Independence Palace (dinh Độc Lập). Then, the palace was bombed in 1962 and it was rebuilt at 1 July 1962 and completed in 1966.
New Palace was designed by Ngo Viet Thu, a famous Vietnamese architect. And its name was still Independence Palace. This was political center of South Vietnam government.
8 April 1975, the palace was bombed again but terrorism did a small of damage to this palace.
After Vietnam war, Saigon city was changed to Ho chi minh city. And Independence palace was changed to Reunification palace (dinh Thống Nhất).
