Busy Traffic, a photo from Ho Chi Minh, South East

Photographer's Note

Nothing very special about this photo, but it is very typical photo not only for Saigon but also for many Asian towns and cities.
Hundreds, thousands of motorcycles, the fastest and one of the cheapest transportation vehicles in the city.
Also in Saigon. I can not imagine if all these bikers would change to car use....
There are also many professional bike owners which offering a ride, like a taxi.
This is for the time being my last photo from this vibrant city.

Here we life, in a totally other world than us Western countries.
A very well daily life picture with all the motorcycles and riders without helmet.
Almost all details are perfect to see

Cela doit être très bruyant lors du départ. Et que dire de la pollution de tous ces deux roues à deux temps. C'est tellement typique de cette région. Un très bel effet de mouvement.

There are so many it looks almost like a race, a marathon on two wheels! I have to admire the people whobubthis method of travel, I have seen some videos of great cities where the intricate journeys they take and make to avoid ever colliding is amazing to watch. Is a great reportage photo that says a lot about the soul of the city.

This is indeed a very typical view from Saigon, even though I don't recognize this particular street. The bikes are approaching on a dense diagonal stream. The red bikes, the trees and the zebra crossing provide colours and details.

Hi Miro,
Traffic in Vietnam... Here it looks civilised, with the lights and "zebra". In Hanoi it was total chaos and usually I stood helpless on one side and couldn't move. It happened that Vietnamese took my hand to guide to the other side of the street. And how funny they looked when it rained, all in colourfulraincoats . Interesting view.

That's about the usual traffic madness in Saigon and even worst in Hanoi and i know too well after visiting this country four times.. he he.. A well caught vivid image there, where you also take your life in your hands if you try to cross the road! Surprisingly the accident rate is very low probably due to fact that all of these road users are astutely aware of everyone else. They all know what they are doing and where they are going but it looks like absolute mayhem !!!! Terrific travel image and great timing too, Congrats

Two wheelers are prefered than individual cars as there are too much traffic jams in Vietnamese capital Miro
Using them it is easier to circulate
the streets are very clean, neat photo

A little bit scarey from memory, when I had to get a rickshaw through streets clogged with motorbikes and bicycles going in all directions to get to a major city bank in HCMC. The near square format works well here and the sharpness is superb. The zebra crossing is a superb addition adding space and a graphic element. Tfs.

Hello Miro,
Very nice photo that gives the flavor of the city. I am not sure if I would feel safe with so many motorbikes around, neither as a pedestrian nor as a car driver. It goes without saying that I would not dare to drive a motorbike.

Greetings Miro,

I know that you are still on your sabbatical, but I decided to look at your earlier posts. This photo last March, and posted shortly afterwards, is one that interested me. I have never visited Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City, but frequently wonder about how it has changed since the Communist North Vietnam took over the city. There seems to be the river like flow of traffic, changed from the earlier years of bicycles. I understand that the inhabitants are generally very young and would not remember the horrors of 4.5 decades ago. I like the vibrant photo.
