Another Havana icon in my gallery. The favourite place of Habaneros and Luciano and Craig - Malecon.
The Malecón (officially Avenida de Maceo) is a broad esplanade, roadway and seawall which stretches for 8 km along the coast in Havana, Cuba, from the mouth of Havana Harbor in Old Havana, along the north side of the Centro Habana neighborhood, ending in the Vedado neighborhood (near US Embassy). New businesses are appearing on the esplanade due to economic reforms in Cuba that now allow Cubans to own private businesses.
If you want to learn what Cubans are talking about, dreaming about, arguing about, laughing about, crying about, you have to take a walk down to Havana’s seaside wall, known as the Malecón. Cuban singer Carlos Varela wrote a song about the city’s iconic wall: “where everything ends, where the sea begins.” If you find yourself in Havana, in the height of summer, head to the Malecón. It’s a great way meet and mingle with habaneros and cool down with the sea air.

Well, I walked all this way on Malecon a few times, in day and in the evening, but I had not the opportunity to chat with Cubans :(. There are places that the waves are big every time and the way is very slippery. Besides, there are no crossings for the pedestrians and the old cars with tourists are going there constantly. So I was a bit nervous. But the walk is very nice. Almost in the end you can see the characteristic building of the Hotel Nacional.

The Hotel Nacional de Cuba is a historic luxury hotel located on the Malecón in the middle of Vedado, Havana, Cuba. It stands on Taganana hill a few metres from the sea, and offers a view of Havana Harbour, the seawall and the city.Among its first illustrious guests were artists, actors, athletes and writers such as Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Weissmuller, Buster Keaton, Jorge Negrete, Agustín Lara, Rocky Marciano, Tyrone Power, Rómulo Gallegos, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway and Jean-Paul Sartre. The hotel's reputation is backed by patrons such as Winston Churchill, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, scientist Alexander Fleming, and innumerable Ibero-American Heads of State and European monarchs.
I haven't been among the guests of this hotel.

Enjoy the wide panorama here.

Two other views - near the harbour and the fisherman - in the Workshops.
