Photographer's Note

At first glance the door is newly painted and attractive but if you look closely this wood door is suffering from wet rot or dry rot. Dry rot is a fungus disease that attacks trees even when still alive and wood in structures. It is a fungus that destroys the cellulose of wood, causes discoloration and eventual crumbling of the wood. Because the fungi require moisture for growth, dry rot occurs most often in places where the ventilation is poor or humidity is high or when the wood has been improperly seasoned.

This is typical of the old houses in the old district of Roseau. From afar they are very attractive. houses are brightly painted but a t acloser look you find defects like this.
