‘Kortrijk - In Praise of Folly’
A third artwork that was exhibited in the northern tower of the Broel Towers is ‘In Praise of Folly (Moriae Encomium’, a work of Kendell Geers, a South African artist.
Explanation at artwork:
Two anthropomorphic blossoms float in the air like the ghosts of ‘moist past’, ‘more present’, and ‘mortal future’. The cut flower of the still life is both alive and dead, like Schrödinger’s cat — an experiment in which a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur. The cut flower is beautiful to behold, severed from its roots at the height of its beauty. As the phantom roots dissolve into the water, the flowers will lose their petals, drop their beauty, and eventually wither away and die. Trapped in our Age of More, between political extremes, vicious vanity, social mediatisation, and an algorithm that guarantees the world will agree with you as long as you buy into the spin, there is no escape except through the mirror.
Materials: Three suspended neon lights, octagonal mirror floor, variable dimensions.
Let’s just say I thought it was a visually appealing work...
Unfortunately, the interior of the tower and the steps at the entrance did not allow me with my camera to get the entire installation and the reflections within the frame :(

Hi Paul, you could not get the full view, but the 3 photos are enough to understand this genius. Truly magnificent, and the place chosen made the difference. Another great surprise from this tower, it reminds me a little of the works of the 2015 Milan Expo. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Paul,
I have heard of that cat, and I never quite understood it. Neither do I fully understand the philosophy behind this art work, but I still like it. The light, details, reflections create a fascinating atmosphere, and the colours are amazing. Possibly no photos could do full justice to the experience of watching this on location, but you did well enough with the combined effort of the three photos.
Best regards,
Gert

Bonsoir Paul,
L'oeuvre d'art est impressionnante. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'oeuvre d'art. La lumière rehausse les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Hello Paul,
Indeed, the tight interior not enabling a wide scope (I use my cell-phone in such a case), still you offered a nice minimalistic sight of such unique art exhibition, on both photos.
Wish you a nice new week,
Ike

Hi Paul,
Charming modern art installation. The interpretation seems quite interesting. I wonder whether they first make the installation and then try to think of a philosophical explanation for it or indeed try to illustrate their thoughts they carry with them.
Very well presented,
M

Hello Paul,
I couldn't quite make sense of the photograph immediately but after scrutinising your w/s, and then returning to the main photograph, it all made sense.
It is a beautiful, thought-provoking piece of art, thoughtfully captured by your three photographs.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Goedenavond Paul,

Hello Paul, an intriguing set of shots.
I cannot begin to imagine how this work was actually set in place.
I particularly like W/S 2 with the portrait presentation.
Having read the explanation I am still unsure as to the artist's message!
Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Paul,
Cool art! I like all three photos.I know you didn't have enough space to get the full view in one shot. Maybe you could have stitched two shots together. :-) All the photos are perfectly exposed and the colors are great. It's a nice mix of real and surreal. Take care!

Hello Paul,
It is an interesting work of art. The pink light permeating the inside of the tower has made the scene even prettier.

I liked the way you used the elements of this artwork with the reflections and the almost abstract sense created by the duplicated shapes. TFS.
take care
