The previous picture illustrated gille costume. Here, one can see several hats of gille made up of feathers of ostriches and heavy +/- 3 or 4 kilos.
The tradition also wants that the Gilles launch blood oranges (of Spanish origin) only during the procession of the afternoon of Mardi Gras in Binche. At Nivelles(where the photograph was taken), the Gilles go out 2 days... Sunday and Monday after Mardi-Gras. The morning, when the Gilles get dressed at the small hours of the night, the habit is also to eat oysters with champagne. The remainder of the day, the gille always made thirsty by beat its shoes, is satisfied in general with a good Belgian beer. During the morning, the Gilles are received by the communal authorities and in Binche, it ravel even with a wax mask, which him cannot be carried in the other cities.
To finish the carnival, there is the final rondo and the dance of burns bump around a fire consuming an old costume of gille. That symbolizes, like many carnivals, the end of the winter...
Taking part in the carnival of Nivelles this weekend, there will be work, snow having covered all the country today...

Personnellement le gille je le ferais volontiers mais que pour le champagne et les huîtres alors, parce que pour le poids du costume je ne suis pas assez costaud.

Superbe photo pour nous confirmer celle d'hier mais avec celle ci l'ambiance est meilleur et, j'aime bien les oranges qui partent dans tout les sens ;-)) faut faire attention alors dans ton carnaval a ne pas s'en prendre une sur la tête.

Il devrais s'associer avec une ville bretonne et melanger les deux ca donnerais un carnaval de coiffe !
Faut etre sacrément costaud pour porter la coiffe , et touce qui l'entoure !

Une photo bien prise en tout cas , très bien cadrer, une très belle scène de vie !

C'est le chef des Gilles celui qui a une coiffe de plusieurs couleurs ?

Les conditions pour prendre cette photo n'étaient pas particulièrement favorables (public, foules, lancement d'oranges).
Vous avez su tirer parti de cette ambiance festive, j'aime beaucoup l'orange qui vole et les mains qui se tendent pour s'en emparer.

bien fait, fred. J'espère que t'amusera bien ce WE et que tu n'auras pas trop de soif. Merci pour la note explicative. Je ne savais pas que le costume pèse autant.

Those ostrich feather hats are really intriguing. They don't look to me like something that comes in handy wearing in a daily life situation (like driving a car, or going through a low door or an airport security check) ;-) A very good shot, Fred, with lively activity in the lower part, and interesting architecture and a nice barren tree reaching into the frame in the upper part. Very good note as well, a truly successful posting in the TE spirit.

Mooie foto Fred, een van de bekenste canavals in België, zeer goed genomen al deze hoeden, ik zou er niet graag meeop mijn hoofd lopen 3 à 4 kg. Goede tekst, prachtige gedaan.

Très chouette cliché, de superbes couleurs malgré notre ciel gris. Tout est bien saisi "sur le vif". Petit détail: même l'orange qui arrive vers toi sur la gauche est parfaitement nette ;)
