Photographer's Note

This old collegial was founded into 987. Its coal-bearing sandstone tower (fine XIe, beginning XIIe century) is the oldest bell-tower of Belgium and formed part, at the time, of the defensive system of the city. The walls external of the great nave were built from 987 to 1011; the apse and the transept are Gothic (XIVe century); the interior and the side chapels were modified at the 18th century. The building was restored in 1987.
