This photograph has been taken almost two weeks ago afternoon on Brussels market.
This is my second picture of the flower carpet, these picture I have more the old building taken (Breadhouse), a wonderful guild house.

Bread House;

In the early 13th century stood on the Grand Place a wooden structure where their bread bakers then sold. This wooden shack was replaced in 1405 by a stone building. But in the early 15th century the bakers their bread from door to door sales to sell them and the now-free building was occupied by the then Duke of Brabant, which is a kind of administrative center of it. From that time comes, the French name Maison du Roi.

During the reign of Emperor Charles V, the bread home again to the ground and became his court architect Antoon II Keldermans appointed to a new building designed in flamboyant Gothic. The plans were completed in 1514 and work on the new King's house were completed between 1515 and 1536.

But the French bombardment of 1695 this building was so badly damaged that a thorough restoration is forced. Because of thelack of funds was only necessary works carried out to prevent the building would collapse further. In the coming centuries would include in that state as "Maison du Peuple", is used (after the takeover of Brussels by the French revolutionist at the end of the 18th century).

At the end of the sixties of the nineteenth century the building was eventually demolished and rebuilt in Gothic Revival. This was one of the great achievements of the former mayor Charles Buls and Jules Anspach. The reconstruction of the building was entrusted to the city architect Pierre-Victor Jamaer that, based on original plans of Anthony Keldermans, a faithful reconstruction of the sixteenth-century building performed. The work began in 1873 and lasted twenty years.

Hi John, a very pretty architecture. It seems that atract many turists. I like the gardem colors. But to me the photo has much constrat transforming the bulding in a opressive thing to see I think the colors of the forground and the red flags reduce it a bit.

Ici le tapis de fleurs fait un excellent premier plan devant cet édifice reconstruit selon les plans de l'ancien édifice gothique. Cette façade gothique est remarquable et se trouve bien mise en valeur par ta photo.

Dag John,
Het Broodhuis op zich is al een majestueus gebouw met zijn vele architecturale details.
Op deze foto wordt het nog wat speciaal in de bloemetjes gezet met het prachtige tapijt vooraan.
Bij het fotograferen ervan heb ik het altijd moeilijk om het deel onder de arcades (in de schaduw) tot uiting te laten komen.

Dag John. Het is een brusselse klassieker maar dat is met reden. Prachtig gemaakt; heel mooie en levendige kleuren en perfect gekadreerd. En je hebt maar een paar dagen de tijd in een jaar om dit te maken en je was er uiteraard bij. Mooi gedaan; prachtige reclame voor Brussel.

Hello John,

Hi John,

Picture perfect composition, such magnificent architecture to display in conjunction with the flower carpet. In fact, the rather neutral building is enhanced by the vivid colors above and below with this arrangement. Great lighting really shows off the fine detail and makes for a warm, inviting scene. the flower carpet is intricate, colourful and attractive but the Bread House is absolutely fascinating, especially with the graphic, mysterious and gothic quality you have rendered so effectively. I like very much the way you combined tight framing and well considered depth and perspective. The contrasts have been handled in a bold and masterful way. Colourful arabesque on the flowered carpet and much more on the chiseled stones adorning the Bread House; strange to notice that everybody behind the fence do not pay attention to the building fancy works, and rather appear hypnotized by the feast of colors!
