These picture has been taken during a manifestation with old bikes, almost the first bike to circa 1950, of the International Veteran Cycle Association IVCA. all people were dressed in original clothes.
This couple comes out of France, the man in police uniform, the lady from the twenties with hat.
This everything middle of the city in Ghent on the "Korenmarkt"

I placed a second picture with an old bike with rider.

The International Veteran Cycle Association (IVCA) is an association of organizations and individuals, interested in vintage bicycles: riding, collecting, restoration, history and their role in society.
Statement of Purpose
The International Veteran Cycle Association is dedicated to the preservation of the history of the bicycle and bicycling and the enjoyment of the bicycle as a machine.
On 26th May 1986, at Lincoln ,UK, the International Veteran Cycle Association (IVCA in short) was formed by Veteran Cycle Clubs, Museums and Collectors of old pedal cycles and related objects from various countries.
The Objectives of the Association are:
To encourage interests and activities relating to all old human-powered vehicles of one or more wheels deriving from the velocipede tradition.
To support and encourage research and classification of their history and to act as a communication medium between
clubs, societies and museums world-wide on mutual matters relating to old cycles.To favor by Rallies, Meetings, Exhibitions, Sales and publications, the free circulation, to people of ideas concerning
cycles, cycling and related matters throughout the world. One rally each year is designated as the International Veteran
Cycle Rally (IVCR) and should aim to be the major international meeting of that year. The country hosting the rally is, responsible for the format of the rally, which may comprise of four or more days of activities.
In Ghent 4 days, a very interesting manifestation.

Hello John,

A very interesting note and a fine photograph demonstrating two people dressed appropriately for the 1920s - a lady in a very fine dress and flowery bonnet with a very friendly-looking gendarme! Are all Belgian policemen so friendly?

A lovely portrait with perfectly natural flesh colours, sharply portrayed in good contrast to the nicely out of focus background. Perfect exposure and lovely colours too.

A very well balanced and beautiful image in respect of composition, color combination, light and well optimized crop. The slightly shallow depth of field is integral in separating the couple from the house facade, and more importantly, allowing the couple to remain the excellent focal point. Very well done John.

Terug naar de Belle Epoque met een prachtig dubbelportret van dit sympathieke stel dat erin toestemde om voor jou te poseren. De twee hebben een fotogenieke kop dat je perfect in beeld hebt gebracht. De joviale gelaatsuitdrukking van de politieagent met zijn martiale snor springt echt naar voren en draagt ook bij tot het succes van de foto. Heel mooi om te zien hoe het vroeger was. Het doet me denken aan de Trammelant in De Haan. De goed gekozen achtergrond laat die mensen goed uitkomen. De kwaliteit van de foto is zoals we gewoon zijn van je: voortreffelijk !

Hi John,

I guess it's safe to say, this is a period photo...it's fun to see the attire worn during that era, and on proud display from this couple. A nice portrait depicting the event and era, and the gentlemans simple smile is what really makes this engaging. A colorful background too, which acts a pleasant compliment to this lovely pair. Without your notes, I would have never guessed there was any association with bicycles, which makes this image all the more interesting. enjoy the new day. Take care.
