Bike trip to Knesselare 23km.
Liberation trip draws through Meetjesland, Flanders Belgium
I took the photo in Knesselare from the procession.
One hundred years after the end of the First World War, the liberation tour draws straight through the Meetjesland and Deinze. More than a hundred Belgian, British and French soldiers travel from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 August by Knesselare, Aalter, Zomergem, Nevele and Deinze.
The historic column consists of more than 100 'soldiers' who are fully equipped, as was the case during the liberation of 1918. There are horses, army vehicles and moving guns.
Shooting and fighting in scene are not part of it.
I hope you can enjoy.

Hello John,
I think today nobody is alive who would remember these events as they actually too place in 1918. The end of the WW1 has become almost like a fairytale, told and re-told with great respect for those who fought and died, but now mostly like an amusing festival. Actually the reason for this carriage we are seeing is not so important any more. It's a pleasant view from the Belgian countryside, it was a nice day, the colours are agreeable and the horses are very beautiful and charming.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi John,
You have captured well the action of the horses pulling the carriage. The point of view is showing the details of the horses and of the carriage. The light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nicr day.

Hallo John,

Prettig weekend, Paul

Hi John
a time for reflection I suppose. It won't take long before there are no surviving members of World War 2! Lets hope there's no #3. a pleasing and quite countryside scene from this town, warm and cool tones, bright light. looks great.

Hi John
Appreciate your supporting narratives: An easy going ride but attractive event so well captured with the horse cart is strategically located filling much of the frame. The happy passengers including the soldier intensify its liveliness and feast for the eyes! Great photo work, nicely done.
Congrats
Best regards

Hello John, Nice picture from the historical parade. Charming view of the old horse cart, the soldiers sitting at the back. But the very large size of the woman jumps into the eye. Pleasant picture from the countryside.
Excellent very fresh picture :). Fantastic colours and sharpness, well composed as always.
Good idea to show the events taking place 100 years ago.
Have a nice weekend

Hello John,
a nice tribute to the 100 years from the end of WW1, and people on this green-painted wooden carriage are dressed accordingly.
The horse in the side from where taken the picture, looks fit and well groomed. A Breton horse, I guess.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Dag John First time in my life I can see an eight-legs horse (!) The spirit of yesteryears in much evident in this high-quality picture of the parade especially when it is impossible to see modern artefacts, as here. Very pleasing voyage back in the time machine! Met vrindelijke groeten.

A very nice inscenisation of the history events, a rare view of the horse cart, even on side roads difficult to see them, an excellent photo

Bonjour, cher ami John
Eh oui, ces bons percherons et carriole servaient à transporter les hommes, étaient utiles pour les activités agricoles, etc.
J'aime beaucoup cette prise de vue très réaliste.
Amitiés.

Hello John,
Thank you for this, it is a great reminder of the end of WWI and how much the allies have to share with one another. WE have lots of big, red poppies positioned around our village, near to where the fallen soldiers used to live, with a a b&w photograph of each soldier on their poppy.
This traditional form of transport is most apt for the purpose, with the passengers appropriately dressed. It makes a fine picture, clear and well saturated,
I couldn't help noticing the shadows (I just like them) particularly those of the men's legs at the back of the cart.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
The end of any war is always a great thing, especially the 2 world wars fought in Europe. Australians were in the region too...
"In late March (1918), Australian troops were brought south from Belgium as reinforcements to help shore up the line and in early April the Germans launched an attack to capture Villers-Bretonneux. After a determined defence by British and Australian troops, the attackers were close to success until a counter-attack by the 9th Australian Infantry Brigade and British troops late in the afternoon of 4 April restored the situation and halted the German advance on Amiens."
It's quite touching that every Anzac Day April 25th the people of Villers-Bretonneux keep their promise to never forget the liberation of the town by Australian troops. Anyway I digress. The horse and cart and 6 passengers provide a strong centre of interest. Good sharpness, color and framing. Tfs!

HI John.
A horse and a carriage a best way to go eco-wise transportation to date. The tradition shows the modern world how simple the life used to be, yet so efficient and beautiful. Of course the wars played own miserable part on the culture and the human/animal lives. TFS!

Hallo John, this old carriage has six passengers, most of them wear vintage clothes. It is drawn by two percherons. The animals look in excellent health. Interesting reportage about the procession to commemorate the liberation. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
