This photo of the wedding carriage was taken by chance, when I passed and had my camera with me, as always by the way, at the town hall of Maldegem

Description
Current town hall built in 1909 to plans by the Ghent architect Henri Geirnaert from 1907.

History
The history and realization of the new town hall is closely related to the old aldermen's house and the inn "Old town hall". Until the middle of the 19th century, both buildings proved sufficient to house the administration. First assignment from the city council in 1858 to architect Hippoliet De Smet to design a new town hall "given the dilapidated condition of the building". From the 1860s it was decided to enlarge the Market in function of the weekly market and new plans were launched for the construction of a town hall at different locations, always in the vicinity of the Market. By expropriating and demolishing Het Steen, a former brewery with an inn and prison on the west side of the old Market, a square was created in 1867 in the perspective of today's Marktstraat. Architect Eugène Carpentier, who had already drawn the plans for the new hospital in 1865, was approached in 1876 to indicate a good location and to design a plan for the new town hall. Several designs for a town hall and town school and drawing academy from 1880-81 were ultimately not realised. Final plans of 1907 by architect Henri Geirnaert. Laying of the foundation stone on September 15, 1907. Execution of the works by contractor Philibert Reychler from Eeklo. Inauguration on June 20, 1909.

Hallo John,
Mooi voor de compositie is dat de trap naar de eerste verdieping van het gemeentehuis mee op de foto staat.
Uiteraard zijn het de paarden en de koets die het hoofdonderwerp vormen maar het gebouw zorgt toch voor een interessante achtergrond.
De paarden lijken wel vurige fans van de rode duivels te zijn :)

Hello John,
We don't see the bridge and groom, but the spontaneous and informal atmosphere of the photo makes it nice and natural. The horses are beautiful, as always, and the white carriage is very elegant. The brick building and the white staircase provide a nice background.

very nice view of this rich carriage with the beautiful lady and the red hat covering the ears of the animals. I presume this isn't so comfortable for them. excellent image.

A very lovely place and so too are the horses. This tells a story that seems all to obvious and what a lovely way to travel and a great start yo her wedding day. That's one of the benefits of carrying a camera around. Excellent shot

Hi John,

These horses are well groomed and cared for. Nice to see. Even their legs are protected from scratches and abrasions. The rust red colour of the fg horse matches the brick building in the bg. Tfs!
