Photographer's Note
‘Kortrijk - Church of Our Lady ’
I started my Kortrijk series with a photo I took atop the 83 meter high tower of the Saint Martin's Church (Sint-Maartenskerk) and I end my series with another photo taken on that tower.
Here you can see the Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk ).
This church is one of the oldest buildings in the city and is a protected monument.
Its construction started in 1199 and in December 1203 the first worship service was held in the choir of the new church.
In my main photo it looks like the church has multiple towers. However, two towers that you see are the Broel Towers that pop up just behind the roof.
In the WS another photo taken down on the street while the church catches the afternoon sun.

Goedenavond Paul,
Mooi panoramisch beeld, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Paul,
Comparing this to the first photo I see you just raised the camera slightly (or lowered it) between the two shots. I thought the houses at the bottom looked pretty, and I soon realized they're part of the Beguinage. The church is even more beautiful, but the three additional roofs would have been a great mistake by the architect. They look rather funny, so it's good to know they don't belong here.
You did well to squeeze the entire church into the WS, actually with a margin of at least 2 mm on the right side in my enlarged photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo Paul,

Hello Paul,
It is an impressive edifice rising above her neighbors. I like the contrast between its grey facade and the red roofs in front of it.

Salut Paul,

Hi Paul,
Very impressive church, captured from two angles. The light makes such a huge difference and this is why I complain about the weather so much. The sunset light in the workshop feels more interesting. I answered your questions under my photo. I see more people explore the local areas rather than go abroad. I suppose this is good because we have a chance to see off the beaten track destinations as well.
Very well done,
M

Hello paul,
I had to smile when I read the note in your w/s; how many times have we, as photographers, tried to back away, as far as possible, to get a shot of an entire, large building!
Though the church is obviously your main feature, I was really attracted to the f/g curve of terracotta roofs. It creates the colourful anchor to the view of the church.
Views, like this, enable you to get a better understanding of an urban area. And, of course, this is very sharply captured for us!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Paul,
The big edifice of the church "employed" much of the picture space, with emphsis made upon it. Still we are able to gewt good view of the town skyline around with green and orange colors mingling on the scene.
Good afternoon,
Ike

Hi Paul
A superb elevated vantage point overlooking the Romanesque Church dating from 1199 AD. The red roofs of the houses contrast well with the austere grey exterior of the building. Tfs!

Hello Paul, from this point of view we see the impressive Church; I am surprised how close all the surrounding buildings are to it, they look as if they are hugging the Church!
An excellent shot taken in a lovely light.
I think that it looks more impressive in this shot than taken from the ground as in the w/s picture.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Paul, Splendid view of this old church. Strange that it is almost no space around, it is so squeezed in the area between the low houses. These three cones look rather strange from this point of view. Nice view of the white Beguinage houses.
Excellent sharpness.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Paul.
In this composition the church leaves all the houses in its surroundings small, with its large size, beautiful Gothic windows and a high tower, the photo of the WS with the façade bathed in the sun, is a marvel.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and magnificent composition; they are managed to perfection, in this beautiful image.
Good job. I like very much.
You have a good day. Very best regards.
Luis.
