Photographer's Note

This picture belongs to a series of portraits of travellers in buses in Liege in Belgium (2005). See my original picture in colours in workshop.

I have always been particularly concerned by mobility in the city, and so in 1994 I decided to give up my car.
Selling my car was a well-thought decision that meant a lot to me.
Now that I belonged to the limited group of people who don't own a car, I had to find different ways of getting to other people and other places. I switched from walking to cycling, I took the train or the bus.
Travelling by bus changed my life and helped me meet my fellow citizens on a daily basis.

Unlike what happens in other cities, people in Liège talk to each other.
I appreciate this familiar contact.
I wanted to capture a few of those privileged instants in order to savour them later.

Je préfère en noir et blanc... la photo a plus de poids je trouve! tout comme ta note d'ailleurs... Etonnant cet acte fort comme tu le dis... je ne comprends pas forcément la motivation mais j'imagine sans peine les ouvertures que ça peut apporter...
J'ai bien hâte de voir les autres clichés de cette série!

Hello Francoise

I can understand your opinions on commuting, I recently started cycling to work and I must agree that things look a lot more different than when I was driving.
What I particularly like here is the combination of elements.
What strikes me directly as the main targets is the girl, her mother(?) and the woman on the poster.
Even though parents might tell their kids to grow up, way deep down there is always a child in everyone... just like the lady on the poster.
Good choice with the B&W, it keeps things simple and makes the photo very interesting to watch.

Salut Françoise,

Belle série celle sur les transports en commun. Je la préfère en n&b mais c’est une bonne idée de mettre aussi la photo couleur.
Dans cette photo, l’attitude « relax » des personnes et celle de l’affiche se complètent bien.

Les précurseurs ont souvent étonné et n’ont pas toujours été compris par leurs contemporains mais la mobilité devra à l’avenir être fondamentalement repensée si bien sûr quelqu’un se soucie de laisser un monde viable pour les générations futures ce qui ne semble hélas pas être le cas pour la majorités de nos décideurs politiques et concitoyens.

J'applaudis à 2 mains ta démarche (photographique et philosophique).

Une jolie série,comme tu hésite je t'ai fais un petit mélange des deux en vitesse, pour une fois que j'ai un peu de temps a consacrer au site ces jours ci.
