Photographer's Note

The memorial at left is the monument to the liberation of Bulgaria from Byzantine (Greek) rule over 800 years ago by brothers Assen & Peter and their successors Kaloyan and Ivan Assen II. After the Byzantines were defeated by the Ottomans though, 500 years of Ottoman rule ensued until 1878. The building behind the memorial is the Museum, which was closed on a Monday. There is a good lookout at the top of the distant hill and if you turn right after crossing the bridge there are many steps up the hill to the lookout. I might load a closer shot of the monument later in a workshop. It was designed by Professor Krum Damyanov.

Veliko Tarnovo is the old capital of Bulgaria and located on the Yantra River which meanders wildly through the town. http://sofiaairporttransfer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Veliko-Tarnovo-view.jpg
