Castle was built before 1319, John of Luxembourg to protect the Elbe road. Almost the entire 14th century the castle was held Vartenberks. The castle stands at 100 meters high inaccessible basaltic rock. Since the late 17th century castle ceased to be permanently inhabited. In the 19th century the castle was restored.
