Note : I hadn't the place to write "on the beach of the northernmost...." for the headline

The little village Siorapaluk is the northernmost „natural“ settlement in the world – from here it`s just another 1.362 km to reach the Northpole ... There are a very few scientific stations or mining camps situated more up north – but no other settlement just with hunters and fishermen ... The villages name means as much as „little sand“, referring to the beautyful sandy beach here, what in fact looks like a perfect bathing area, if there would not be so much ice around ...

Matinée à Siorapaluk, le village le plus septentrional au monde : 93 habitants dont un japonais venu s'établir ici il y a une trentaine d'années après avoir lu Malaurie. Ce matin, il dégraissait des peaux de phoques avec son ulu, le couteau en arc de cercle des inuit. J'ai photographié sa main mais je n'ai pas réagi quand, levant les bras et ses mains grasses, il se déhancha pour permettre à une acheteuse de peau de renard polaire de glisser les billets de banque dans la poche de son jean.

Siorapaluk signifie à peu près "petit sable"... clin d'oeil à...

Magique ce morceau de glace qui se découpe façon puzzle sur ce mix de bleus... à moins que ça ne soit le contraire et que tout s'emboite de toutes façons.

Good note and dof, unfortunaltely the headline is a bit missleading since there is no settlment in the picture, but still a good picture.

Content de te retrouver sur TE, ayant déjà vu tes photos de ton récent périple Groenlandais .... elles auront à coup sûr un très bel accueil sur le site.
Superbes icebergs, étincelants sous le soleil, bonne composition et profondeur d'image, la netteté permet de profiter de la texture de la glace, bravo !

for me it is a very good photo where the different tones of the same blue colour and the skillful use of close up in a landscape transfer the feeling of being in the far North. Congratulations!

Je visite régulièrement ton site. Un voyage sur l'Hurtigruten me fait rever. Content de pouvoir commenter tes photos sur TE!!
Une très belle lumière sur ces glaces et un fond de paysage estompé dans des teintes très douces.

Hi Paul, this is an interesting scene. And an even more interesting place to be too. I read the French note - and am I right thinking the Inuit man expecxted you to place money into his pockets for taking his photo? Many people expect that now:) And it is an income for them too.

Hello Paul,

Magnifique lumière sur le morceau de glace au premier plan. On peut ensuite laisser libre l'oeil pour découvrir tout l'arrière plan...

Wow, a superb shot! It is a great exposure of the ice, presumably quite difficult to avoid over-exposure. The viewpoint is great and the detail and light and shade on the ice are superbly rendered. There is a slight tilt to the right which could easily be fixed in software, but it is hardly important. Great upload.
