Photographer's Note

A pleasant evening light illuminates a rowing boat on the shores of lake Simpelejärvi in eastern Finland.
Lake Simpelejärvi and the region around the small town of Parikkala are renewed as a paradise for bird watching. Both lake Simpelejärvi and nearby Siikalahti are considered as the best observation spots for bird lovers in Finland. This is due to the proximity of lake Ladoga, some 35km to the east, that influences the microclimate of the region and makes the vegetation especially lush and attractive for many a local or migrating bird. There have been over 70 species of birds recorded here.

Fantastic composition. A very artistic and very sensitively picture. I love the natural framing with the branches of trees, and depth that is achieved with the lake in the center. I like the glare on the water they bring some magic touch. Really a very nice picture.

Beautiful summer view from a Finnish lake. Framing with green foliage is excellent and sparkling backlight on the water works well. Rowing boat is really an essential part of such a lake view.

What an idyllic scene, with such unusual light for an early evening. The yellow boat is delightful and contrasts beautifully. Some purists would say you cut it too tight in the foreground, but I like what you have done here.

Hi Daniel,
Superb photo. The wooden boat is an excellent focal point of this photo. There is a great use of depth of field to hold the viewer in the foreground boat, the green trees and the nice lake water with beautiful reflections, and the excellent lighting conditions have allowed for very good color saturation. The overall impact is very strong.

this scene is very beautiful, your composition describes the scenery in an elegant way and suggests a story as well. The yellow rowing boat, complete with oars, is attractive and points to a route towards the luminous background. I like very much the depth of the scene and the precision of the textures.
