Asco Valley at Night, a photo from Corse, South

Photographer's Note

Star trails over Asco Valley, one of the least visited places in Corsica.

I decided to convert the image to monochrome because of the light pollution caused by the small village of Asco where I was staying. The colour cast is clearly visible in spite of the remoteness of the location.

In the WS, you can see the original image which of course has its merits (e.g. it highlights the issue of light pollution).

Exposure time around 1 hour and 20 minutes.

I UPLOADED A WRONG VERSION OF THIS IMAGE AT FIRST THEN REPOSTED THE NEXT DAY AND ALL THE CRITIQUES HAVE DISAPPEARED. MY FAULT. APPOLOGIES TO BRIAN, JEAN JACQUES AND SERGE AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVELY COMMENTS. I HAVE READ THEM AND CAN STILL SEE THEM IN MY LIST OF RECEIVED CRITIQUES.

Hi Kasia,
Congratulations! You have proven that the stars are turning around our globe :)
WoW, 1 hour and 20 minutes exposure. I wonder how the battery stands such a long operation but the result is so nice. I think there is a little bit overexposure, i guess they also use a filter to avoid this in such long exposure times. I added a WS to make it look darker and emphasize further the hills and the stars. Hope you like it.

as Deniz has pointed out already, i'm really impressed with the seriously long exposure...i'm sure my battery would have died.
the final result is worth it though right?
so what were you doing all that time waiting! haha

Czesc Kasiu,
WOW,od czego tu by zaczac.Zdjecie jest tak niesamowite,ze ciezko znalezc odpowiednie slowa zeby opisac ta scene.Prawie 1,5godz. czasu ekspozycji(nie wiedzielem ze mozna az tyle ustawic,chociaz pewnie nie w moim Nikonie:)Natomiast efekt jaki tu osiagnelas jest naprawde super(troszke jakbysmy obserwowali deszcz meteorytow spadajacy na Ziemie).Podoba mi sie rowniez twoja obrobka zdjecia-faktycznie czarno-biale schemet kolorystyczny podkresla tylko nocny charakter kompozycji.

PS.Musialas sie chyba niezle wynudzic czekajac godzine i 20 minut:)?ja sie nudze robiaz zdjecia z 30-to sekundowym czasem naswietlania:)
Chociaz oplacalo sie!

Hello Kasia,
Occasionally I have seen photos so bad they almost made me wonder if the photographer was actually asleep. Now I know this is really possible :-).
This is an amazing and interesting experiment and another proof of your creativity. A truly original view of Corsica.
