A RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH exists since 1994, on the territory of the commune of Sylvanès, the HETIMASY CHURCH, i.e. the church of the empty throne, on standby of the second arrival of Christ for the last Judgment.

Built March 1993 to March 1994 in woodland pine, in the forest of KIROV with 700 km east of Moscow, then dismounted and transported to MILLAU in France, by 5000 km of railway in August 1994, that is to say 500 m³ of wood on 15 wagons, and assembled by Russian carpenters of kirov-Viatka at Sylvanès, close to the priory of the Barns, not far from the old Sylvanès Cistercian abbey of the 12th century.

The rebuilding was made without nails nor rivets metal, only by assemblies with embedding, completely carried out with the axe. The bulbs were carried out in wood tiles of Eurasian Aspen, notched and formed only with the axe.

It is a vast church of 300m North-South directed, bedside in the south because of ground, designed according to the Russian tradition of the churches out of wooden of the 17th 18th centuries. The height of the bell-tower reaches 27 meters height. The interior is divided into a narthex, a before-nave, a nave and a sanctuary which shelters the altar, in the east a chapel devoted to the orthodoxe rite, in the west a chapel devoted to the Roman rite.

The project was carried out under the patronage of the father André Gouzes Dominican, born in 1943 in Brusque in South-Aveyron on the ROUGIER de CAMARÈS., priest of the parish of Sylvanès, liturgist and composer of sacred music, restorer of the abbey of Sylvanès, and Monseigneur Alexandre Moghilev, bishop of Kostroma, in Republic of Russia.

The Sylvanès abbey is the 3rd tourist site of Aveyron, after the "Caves de Roquefort", cellars of Roquefort and La Couvertoirade. It is today an arts center and the seat of an international center of sacred art, supported by acoustics of the church, particularly adapted to the song.
