he cairns, a pile of stones, which are also called "Montjoie" in the Cévennes, were originally erected to indicate a path; but now many are those whose function is only aesthetic.
this is the case of those on the shores of Lake Verdet at 2,503 meters above sea level (an easy hike from the Ubaye valley)

Hi Christine, I haven't known that such piles of stones are called cairns. People build them in many places, usually in the mountains. In Uzbekistan they are for luck and should be built from seven stones .
