Photographer's Note

The construction of the tower Saint Nicolas (the tower more has left) was begun in 1372 and was finished in 1376. Since 1628, following the seat of the city by Richelieu, this massive tower became a prison.Sa construction dates from the English occupation to the Small rock during the One hundred Year old war: the tower was built after the explulsion of the English by Chaudrier, the mayor. The architect in charge of the restoration of the turns at the XIXème century noted a beginning of architectural arch (still visible today) on the western frontage of the tower. He concluded from it that an arch connected the tower Saint Nicolas to the tower of the Chain. This arch, probably notched, made it possible to the men-at-arms to make rounds, while letting pass the boats the tower of the Chain (the tower more has right) sheltered the mechanism of lifting of the chain barring the access to the harbour. This tower was built during annnées 1380-1390. The architect having directed work of restoration of the turns was brought to think that a warhead réunisait the tower of the chain to the tower Saint Nicolas. Moreover, between these two turns, also drew up a small tower which was destroyed at the beginning of the XIXème century. Before the construction of the two turns in XIVème century, the port was kept by less important works.

Superbe cliché nocturne. Couleurs bien saisies, cette luminosité réfléchie sur les bateaux est excellente. Bleu nuit parfait et si cela ne suffisait pas ... les réflections sur l'eau sont également bien captées.
Bravo pour cet excellent travail.

Salut Thierry,

Je connais pas la rochelle et c'est un tord car c'est une ville qui semble mérité de detour, tu as pris la photo au crepuscule et les couleurs sont superbes, j'aime bien l'eau qui a l'air d'une mer d'huile.

Merci pour la note très documentée, elle accompagne parfaitement la composition.
J'aime beaucoup l'ambiance dégagée de l'ensemble avec ses couleurs entre ciel et mer qui se mélangent.
Beaucoup de netteté et un excellent cadrage permettant de voir les différents édifices historiques de la ville.

Magnifique, cette photo de nuit !
Les tons chauds ressortent parfaitement bien en contraste avec les bleutes intenses et la reflection est extra. Le phare blanc sur la gauche attire l'oeil de par sa couleur differente.
Tres bien cadre er realise !

Fort bien capté, très agréable à l'oeil, et la note est instructive, merci. Concernant le phare à gauche, je suis partagée. Il attire l'oeil car n'est pas illuminé de la même couleur que le reste ; fallait-il le garder ou non dans la composition ?.. J'avoue ne pas arriver à me décider sur ce point ;-)

Encore une magnifique image de ce port. Mais celle-ci n'est pas seulement belle elle est excellente.
Personnellement je préfère sans cadre, mais cela na rien a voir avec l'image.

Jadis ( au printemps 1979 ) , j'ai visité La Rochelle. Il me semble que dans la Tour de la Chaine, il y a avait un Pub !
Une soirée fort bien arosée d'ailleurs s'en était suivit, où j'avais eu l'occasion de rencontrer des insulaires de l'île de Ré. A moins que ma mémoire me joue des tours.....
une belle soirée amicale à bavarder entre cousins !

This is a great shot and the colors are really good. The only complaint that I have is that it looks a little "over sharpened" I am not sure if this is true or not but it is just me. I really like the shot.
