Photographer's Note

The Charente is a river in western France, 360 kilometers long.
It flows in the Atlantic Ocean near the Town Rochefort Sur Mer.

This picture is made some kilometers before Rochefort, at the place the tide's effect is still very important.
At low tide, the river is very narrow, and the banks made of several meters of mud, which form wonderful stripes of silver in the beautiful light of our region.

At hight tide, the river is often spread and quiet as a lake, as at this moment, a dawn of January 2007.

The banks are covered of fishing cabins, named "Carrelet". One of them is here visible at the other side of the river.
