A break in my collection about my last trip in Iceland ... A travel in the past, to the roman era, with a photo of the departue of a chariots race in ... the Puy du Fou coliseum ! The Puy du Fou is a theme park situated in Les Epesses in Vendée, about one hour from Nantes and Angers. This park was opened in 1989 and is one of the most successful theme parks in France toda (1.6 millions visitors in 2012). It is dedicated to the History theme. You can see reconsitution of villages of past times but most of all you can see shows that make you travel in the past : ludi in a roman coliseum, a medieval battle in the Hundred Years War, a Viking assault on a medieval village, musketeers at Richelieu time, a falconry show, a show about the knights of the round table, etc... Because of the costumes, the sceneries, the special effects and the music, you feel like watching movie scenes in real ! I had heard positivelly about this park and I really loved it indeed !

About the picture ... It was token during the Le signe du triomphe show. In year 300, christian prisoners (leaded by a rebel roman lieutenant named Damien), are sentenced to win ludi to save their lives. It includes a spectacular chariots race ! The show takes place in a 115 metres long coliseum that was inaugurated in 2001 and can host up to 7,000 people.
