Photographer's Note

As you should know, I spent 10 hours on the Pilat dune, mainly looking at and taking pictures of paragliders. The North West wind creates an upstream along the sand dune, allowing the paragliders to take off and fly along the dune.
The spectacle was at its best at sunset with the gorgeous colors of the sky and the ocean.

Bonjour Claude,

Yes, those ten hours on the dune were certainly well spent on Saturday! You caught some lovely photos of people walking and dancing during daylight and then, as the sun began to set, you captured these paragliders!

Your two workshop photographs, taken later after sunset, are excellent, especially as one includes two paragliders perfectly placed in the single frame.

But my favourite one just has to be your main image because of the glorious golden light against which the paraglider and his "wing" are perfectly portrayed. What is also brilliant about this shot is that the person appears to be just touching the water's edge with one foot, the "wing" or "canopy" almost completely fills the frame from side to side and it almost touches the horizon at the top.

Splendide luminosité qui dore l'horizon et la surface de l'eau, c'est pris au bon moment avec cette impression de s'élancer dans les airs, une jolie vue qui évoque la liberté.

Hi Claude,
A stunning angle showing this paraglider taking off right towards the sun. From this angle it is not easy to estimate the height of the dune. But I think it is pretty high, so paragliding is possible.

Your Patience to spend 10 hours photographing these paragliders has been richly rewarded with these unique photos, a good selection from the probably hundreds of photos you took that day. Especially in the main photo, all good elements cooperate beautifully.

A sunset image with smashing colours and wonderful light creating those silhouettes. Weather is what it is all about and how clever you are at using it for your benefit. I feel that it would look even better if some of the slight almost-over-exposed on top is cropped off. Superb capture
