Photographer's Note

PARIS has become one of my favourite cities over the years. I've visited it many times, sometimes with students, then it's work, but I always manage to get some time off for myself too. Last August I visited it again with my wife and daughter for my wife's birthday. It's wonderful to visit some of the famous sights again and there are always plenty of new ones to discover. That's what a big city is like.

THIS PICTURE is shot from inside the Musée d'Orsay, the big former train station on the banks of the Seine that houses the world's most impressive collection of impressionist (pre and post) paintings. Unlike the Louvre, which feels like a warehouse, I never get tired of D'Orsay, though it is worth it to pick out a time to visit when it is not too busy.

This is the view from behind one of the big (station) clocks, looking out.

Some people have watches, others have time.
