LA PISCINE (the swimming pool) in Roubaix celebrates its 20th anniversary as museum with an impressive Jawlensky exhibition, reason for us to spend a a couple of days culture tripping in French Flanders.

La Piscine is housed in the magnificent setting of A.Baert's 1932 Art Déco swimming baths, in the centre of Roubaix. Its collections focusses on 19th and 20th century paintings and especially sculptures.

We visited it for the superb Jawlensky exhibition and were pleasantly suprised by the works of the German painter Suzanna Hay (1962-2004). But perhaps the main star of the show was the museum itself.

Doe mij denken aan het mooie Stads feestzaal in Antwerpen, maar dan zonder zwembad.
Waar ik zoveel mooie foto heb gemaakt destijds.
Us foto is prachtig en een parel om cultuur op te snuiven, en liefst geen omicron in de neus.
Mooi om naar te kijken, pracht werk, bedankt.

Prettige oudejaarsavond, ik blijf in mijn kot!

Interesantan i lep pogled, dobar tekst ...
Lep enterijer i detalji, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, perspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom.

I've never heard of this place but it looks fabulous. I love both the reflection and the symmetry of the composition. The colours are lovely too and I like the presence of people wearing dark clothes - what a fantastic juxtaposition with the white statues.

Hello Benny,
It's a very unusual building for an art museum. Couldn't the humidity emanating from the pool damage the paintings? But it reminds me a bit of a small scale version of the Musée d'Orsay. The window at the far end is fantastic and of course the pool comes very handy for magnificent reflections. The dark figures among the white statues are other great features.

Not a museum that I've ever heard of. It looks interesting with that setting. A good indoor photo with those dark figures.

Hello Benny, Interesting museum in the swimming pool. Magnificent Art Deco building.
I shouldn't be surp[rised, our most beautiful royal palace in Warsaw is in former baths.

Yes indeed the main gallery or pool are certainly the highlight and you have well presented it from an elevated point og view. The reflection adds of course a nice vibrant addition in the bottom of the scene.
