Photographer's Note
I spent three hours yesterday at the Chinese new year in the 13th district of Paris, commonly referred to as the paris Chinatown. I decided to shoot the people around themarch rather than the march itself, so do not expect to see too many costumes, but street people...
I loved the sight of this bi-national young couple, and the chaos around them reminded me of this famous shot from Doisneau at the Hotel de Ville called 'le baiser volé' (The stolen kiss), except this one was not a set-up, but reality...
Another photo of this couple to come tomorrow but somewhat different... see you tomorrow! ;-)
i tried to warm up a bit the colors in a ws...

Good choice, Eric. The spectators are much more interesting -- reality vs. staged spectacle, as you suggest in your note. Not really meminded much of the famous (and now, unfortunately, cliché) Doisneau shot, however, which offers a sense of young, urban enchantment. This seems much different. The couple appear preoccupied, perhaps even disturbed, adrift and alone in a sea of people, clinging to each other in an attempt at security, but . . . even so, the woman seems upset. She looks cold and disturbed, focused on something that has happened to her or to them. And her companion, looking away, seems to be thinking about a solution to a problem . . . or an escape from it. It's a powerful and revealing moment you've captured, but, as I said, for me, it's a long way from the stolen kiss of the Hotel de Ville. -Hugh

magnifique Eric!
Merci...

Still Eric, a fine picture. I think it a little of the Furachan vein, but all your details are spot. Travel plans in your future? best, c

Salut Eric,

Salut Eric,

Hi Eric, they do not seem to be so happy with the year of the pig, and the image is so different from what I remember from last year. But apart from the event, I do like the photo very much. Somehow I have the feeling that it could be a still from a movie.
Did you have fun?

Brave Man:) BRinging up Doisneau in your own title...LOL. You know Doisneau would have shot in b/w..and he would probably have paid them to pose LOL. I like the way youve plucked them out of the moving crowd Eric.

SAlut Eric!
Bien vu!

Promoting bi-nationalism? :)
Good idea. Diversity is always more interesting.
And good idea to have taken photos of the ordinary people instead of the constumes! Makes it more interesting too :)

J'aime bien.
Amicalement,
Francis
