Industrial mood, a photo from Ile-de-France, North

Photographer's Note

It has been a long time I didn't walk in Paris. It was Sunday, it was the day...

I went South-East, where a "new" Paris is getting designed, composed, built for something like 20 years...

A former industrial place, a modern district now.

This is an indutrial hotel (built by Dominique Perrault, the architect who designed the Bibliothèque de France, just closed to that place) which is a kind of inverted "Beaubourg" (the pipes are visible, like in Beaubourg, but they're inside, on the contrary to Beaubourg).
Concerning the chimneys, they are the ones of a factory, that burns and recycles garbages of the area.

Hi Stephaine,
Quite interesting to read your note about 'industrial hotel'. Does this technology works because there is still a lot of smoke coming out of the pipes. Anyway, irrespective on whether you are trying to make a 'green' message, the photo itself warrants some merit as it is well composed. Contrast is perfect and its simplicity is effective. Well done.... tfs.

Stéphane, c'est plutôt inquiétant pour ce quartier dernier cri (celui qu'on pousse avant de mourir asphyxié ! )
La photo est superbe avec le bâtiment très géométrique et cette fumée très belle vue sur une photo.

Hi Stephane,
Good of you to show us this modern industrial architecture. The black and white makes a interesting contrast. I think it is a pity the façade on the right side is so much in the dark that it is difficult to see the structure.

Ca fait un momment qu'elle me tente (me hante?) ces cheminées.
C'est une bonne idée de les prendres depuis ce quartier!
j'ai l'impression qu'il y a pas mal de photo à faire dans ce coin, il y a quelques batiments intéressants.
Tu reste dans des atmosphères très sombres mais qui fonctionnent bien dans ce genre de photo.

Avec tes couleurs très belles et sombres, tu nous brosse un paysage bien inquiétant. Zone industrielle, hôtel industriel, tuyauteries, cheminées, déchetterie,des termes désespérément peu naturels.

Quand je pense que beaucoup vont se promener dans les jardins publics pour s'eloigner de la cite, toi tu plonges au coeur de la cite industrielle. une atmosphere sombre comme il se doit, des formes rectilignes et cett grose fuemme qui s'echappe... Toute une atmosphere.

je ne suis pas fan de ces photos... mais je dois dire que pour l'effet démoralisant et terne c'est réussi ! Effet donné par ces teintes grises alliées à un premier plan sombre. La fumée ainsi que ces nuages contribuent à cet effet de vague à l'âme presque Baudelairien...
Pas de :D pour celle-ci car il lui manque le charme habituel de tes photos. Mais je dois dire que pour l'effet gris, c'est très bien réalisé ! Avec un cadrage très bon.

Hi Stephane,
Well, although the belching smoke does not please the senses, the photo works and is artistically rendered. The tall chimney perfectly balances the frame and your low angle POV really dramatizes the scale of the building, chimneys and smoke. I like the silhouetted bushes in the foreground which remind us that nature still endures. Well captured, my friend.

Quite different than the usual visually appealing scenery we are presented on TE and elsewhere. Yet it's powerful thanks to your well-designed composition. Almost monochromatic colors and the direction of the smoke turn this industrial setting into a work of art. Well done.

Un peu tristounette comme couleurs (ou plutôt comme absence de couleurs...) mais j'aime assez les contrastes trés marqués ici en noir et blanc : la fumée de vapeur qui s'échappe des cheminées, le rideau d'arbre trés noir et le contraste face obscure / face éclairée du batiment de droite.

J'aime beaucoup ta série de photos de Lybie mais cette photo "industrielle" me plaît plus encore.
Tout est ici en résonnance : la rondeur opaque de la fumée répond aux angles transparents du batîment, la cheminée cylindrique s'oppose au quadrilatère, le premier plan sombre s'oppose à la légèreté du ciel.
Bref, j'aime beaucoup d'autant que je trouve très difficile de rendre ce genre de thème "beau".
Encore de l'industriel !

Thats interesting about the hotel, hope the scrubber units for the chimneys work well otherwise the guests might grow extra fingers and things.
A little over powering because of the amount of darkness to the image but your note and the smoke from the chimney are excellant.

Hello Stephane,
C'est plutôt inquiétant cette pollution! Je ne suis pas fan des sites industriels, je préfère la campagne et les petits oiseaux, mais ceci est une réalité et c'est intéressant de nous montrer le côté sombre de ce que l'on appelle "progrès humain".

Not the usual view of Paris Stephane!
But always nice to see some industrial reality here.
It might be a little dark in the shadows, but otherwise a quite nice shot.

A very industrial take on Paris, Stephane. The elementary compo with its dasic shapes works very well and I love the addition and rendition of the exhaust fumes. The high contrast is essential here. I wonder if the mood of the picture reflected your thoughts about Paris that way. Very striking work.
