Photographer's Note

This amazing place, the Mittelwerk/Mittelbau/Camp Dora where Germans in the end of world war two produced their V-2 rockets, or assembled is more correct i guess. There is still a lot of parts from the V-1 and V-2 rockets in these facilities. Kilometers of tunnels was created and used as factorys and other facilities to contain prisoners etc.

These underground facilities was the response of the allied bombing of Peenemünde. After that the Germans moved everything to this place which was all underground.

In 1945 an american 3rd armored division seized the camp. After collecting and sending everything they "needed" to Unitet States, they left it and Russians took over the camp and factory. They blew up the enterances around 1948. The site was an official National Historic Site in May 1991 and the memorial was opened in 1995.

Some over 20.000 prisoners was killed or died building this site and surrunding camps/facilities.

I had Canon Speedlite 580EX , but the batteries was empty. Without tripod i placed the camera on the walkways rail to shoot the images.
