Photographer's Note
From the same trip as yesterday's picture.
Bayerische Zugspitzbahn is a narrow gauge railway between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. Despite the short overall distance there's a change of trains in the middle, where the real climb and rack railway starts.
The railway seems to disappear into the mountain, and in fact it does. The top part of the climb is in a tunnel.

Nice capture, i love the scene, it is well composed and well executed, apart from 1 classic mistake, it looks a little dull and grey, you should have compensated for the bright tones of the snow by overexposing by 1 - 2 f/stops. white snow forces cameras to underexpose as the cameras sensor is trying to make a midtone out of it, it's also true if you try to photograph something really dark, it will overexpose to try to make it a midtone. i am going to try a workshop on it.

Kari,
Zugspitze is one of my favorite places when living in Germany. It is amazing how soon the items around us become routine and we no longer notice them. So, I make sure to visit Zugspitze often whenever I am there.
I enjoyed living in Grainau Germany during my stay there, which is not far from Garmisch Parten-Kirchen. I never have managed to take the train up to Zugspitze in all my time there. I always rode the different gondolas to the top (cable cars). Thanks for sharing this one I really enjoyed it.
peace,
haans :)

Great one, I like winter photos that express nature against machines. I wonder if this train can handle more snow on the tracks. Well done!
Best regards,

Its amazing that these trains can run in such conditions when here in the UK they grind to a halt at the slightest sign of winter.I like the composition and the way you have let the train turn in before taking the shot and also the shed giving depth to the shot. All i would change is add a touch more sharpness

Well timed as the little train turns a bit and shows a bit of the side. I like the feeling of cold and cloudy winter day, I think it is even a bit wet...

Hi Kari
very nice picture. the blue of the train and the white snow work together very well! I would have added some more contrast or color intensity and added some sharpness. Great shot!
cheers,
Martin

This is a nice composition, Kari. I agree with the comments above about adding a little more sharpness, but not about the need to increase the exposure. I like it as it is because it conveys the grey misty atmosphere very well. This is lost in Dean's workshop because the whites are blown out (sorry Dean!) Cheers . . . David

Hello,
I like this kind of winter scene, with reduced visibility, and a kind of fight between us and our machines against the natural elements.
It is quite a challenge to get good photos in such conditions. I tried a workshop as an attempt to bring the natural tones back, as I found it was a bit too blue.

Kari, very good photo, considering weather conditions when it was taken :)

I like the way you steped out on the track to shoot this. Nice POV and well exposed. You have captured the remoteness of this narrow gage railway well.
Great Job.

I was going through pictures of Garmisch-Partenkirchen pictures on TE and I found this one. I like the snowy picture & this train. I haven't experience the winter season for more than 14 years & I kind of miss it. Wish I could ski. The colors are perfect - the image I have of heavy snow & winter in my mind. Regards. Latiff

Terve Kari,
Nice image, great exposure in the snow. I've never heard about this railway line before, although I'm quite up-to-date about railways. Tfs - both the image and the infos. Have a nice weekend, take care, László
