Photographer's Note

The village of Dernau in Ahr valley was severely stricken by the inundations exactly half a year ago. About 500 of the 600 local houses were damaged, some of them torn down in the meantime.
You can see the brownish wall markings on the houses in the center. They show that not only the ground-floors were completely flooded up to their ceilings but also at least half of the second floors.

The bridge disappeared, you look at an emergency bridge set up by THW.
And BTW: I'm standing on what once was the embankment of Ahr valley railway.
A sign of hope: two restaurants have re-opened.

Craftsmen and donations are still urgently needed and welcome.
