Photographer's Note

On the bus through rural Greece I noticed many of these structures along the side of the road. They remind me of the crosses people usually put up at the side of the road when someone looses their life. I asked my tour guide, and she explained they are sometimes memorials for the same reason, or sometimes they are used to guide people to nearby churches.

These momuments are varied in size and decoration. This one was one of the more stiking ones, especially with a view of the mountains behind it. They usually have bibles, candles, flowers or other special possesions inside of them.

This particular day was quite warm and sunny, however, the darker cloud gives a more sobre feel to the subject. Such beauty and such loss.

I had set my camera to aperture priority at f18 and was taken at 18mm at 200iso. I was a little surprised it was such a slow shutter speed but I usually have pretty steady hands and at 18mm was pretty safe.
