Crocus Veluchensis (Wild Crocus. Crocus Saffron).
Balkan species. The bulb is surrounded by brown jackets, opening at the upper part and form a thin fibrous netting.
Every plant has usually 2 leaves sprouting simultaneously with the flowers having also a middle white rib. The flower is usually solitary with pale rose-colored limbs of the calyx, yellow stamen and orange-colored speckles. The species stands between 1800 and 2600m, (casually at lower elevation) and usually blooms near spots of melting snow.

Captured near the twin lakes formed at the foot of the Flega peak.

Crocus Veluchensis (Άγριος κρόκος, κρόκος ζαφορά).Βαλκανικό είδος. Ο βολβός περιβάλλεται από καστανούς χιτώνες, οι οποίοι ανοίγουν προς τα επάνω και σχηματίζουν λεπτοφυές ινώδες δικτυωτό.Συνήθως υπάρχουν 2 φύλλα σε κάθε φυτό, που εκφύονται ταυτόχρονα με τα άνθη και έχουν λευκή μεσαία νεύρωση. Το άνθος είναι συνήθως μονήρες με ωχρορόδινα-ιώδη μέλη περιανθίου, κίτρινους ανθήρες και πορτοκαλόχρωμα στίγματα. Το είδος βρίσκεται μεταξύ 1800 και 2600μ. περίπου (περιστασιακά χαμηλότερα) και συχνά ανθίζει κοντά σε κηλίδες από λιωμένο χιόνι.Η φωτογραφία τραβήχτηκε κοντά στις λίμνες Φλέγγα.
